WORLD CONTRACEPTION DAY
SUPPORT MISSION
About World Contraception Day
World Contraception Day takes place on September 26th every year. The annual worldwide campaign centers around a vision where every pregnancy is wanted. Launched in 2007, WCD’s mission is to improve awareness of contraception and to enable young people to make informed choices on their sexual and reproductive health.
WCD celebrates the transformative power of informed decision-making in contraception. The impact of empowered contraceptive choices extends beyond physical health, influencing personal growth and societal dynamics.
We are dedicated to fostering a culture of empowerment through open dialogue and education. By promoting responsible conversations and providing information and educational resources on contraception and sexual health, we help young people make informed decisions that shape their futures.
Access to effective contraception not only supports bodily autonomy but also opens doors to educational and career opportunities. When girls and women can choose when to start a family, they can pursue their ambitions without the unexpected disruption of unplanned pregnancies.
Make Informed Decisions
Knowledge is power. With comprehensive information about contraception, young people can take control of their lives and futures. This year, let’s empower choices, one decision at a time.

World Contraception Day is supported by a coalition of international partner organizations with a common interest in advancing sexual and reproductive health and is sponsored by Bayer AG.
The WCD Coalition’s Commitment
The WCD Coalition, in line with the WCD motto ‘It’s Your Life, It’s Your Future’, shares a commitment to encourage young people to build contraception into their plans for the future and to prevent unplanned pregnancies and sexual transmitted infections (STIs).
The WCD Coalition’s views on the key issues around unplanned pregnancies and STIs
Although the biggest issues around unplanned pregnancies and STIs differ from region to region, the WCD Coalition agrees there are four key areas of development needed globally:
- Increasing age-appropriate comprehensive sexuality education and information for young people.
- Improving access to youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health services as well as access to contraception.
- Addressing cultural taboos surrounding youth and sexuality.
- Addressing gender inequality.
